When the chief priests, temple officers, and elders came<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
to the Garden of Gethsemane<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
to arrest<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
Jesus,<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
they succeeded<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
only because a<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
sovereign God<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
permitted them to succeed.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
Jesus pointed out that He was teaching daily in the Temple, yet<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
they never laid a finger on Him then.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
Now they were after Him with swords and staves.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
“But this is your hour, and the power of darkness is yours” (Lk 22:53 JBP).<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
Who gave them that hour?<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
Who allowed them the power to capture Him?<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
<\/span>It was God,<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
without whose leave not even a<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
sparrow can fall to the ground.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
God is omnipotent,<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
never slumbering,<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
just,<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
righteous, and<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
forever in control.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
He was not taken by<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
surprise.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
All was working then, as it is always working, into a pattern for good.<\/p>\n

Our own difficulties often appear to be<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n

random.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
Our tragedies look wildly<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
uncontrolled.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
They are not.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
They are subject.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
Limits are set.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
God is quietly at work,<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
standing in the shadows,<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
ceaselessly watching over<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
His children.<\/p>\n

“The light shines on in the dark, and the darkness has never mastered it” (Jn l:5 NEB).<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
